Yes, there is the Statue of Liberty, but that is the only important landmark. After playing the single player campaign, I felt a little let down. You don't feel like you're fighting on American soil. WIC was okay, but did not meet my expectations. In general, I like the storyline. The explosions are cool. The game is completely linear and you have to complete each mission in order so that you can proceed. Your troops will defend themselves automatically, but to win on difficult settings you have to concentrate fire and use special attack functions.
In WIC, you command a small combat team in which you control the makeup of the team based on the types available and the allocation points given. But, WIC is an adventure game not a strategy game. Reinforcements are generally unlimited on both sides except for a couple missions. WIC is more of a capture the flag game.
I was very excited to play World in Conflict (WIC) because I liked the concept. Everything moves so fast that I found myself constantly pausing the game so I could move to a different part of the game area or get my cursor in the right place to call in reinforcements, airstikes, healing units, use special attack features, etc.I was also just disappointed with the scenery. The graphics aren't bad. But, the terrain could be anywhere. Victory is usually decided by holding and fortifying checkpoints. Great battles with limited resources and an overall campaign strategy where you array your defenses to halt the Russian invasion. It unfolds kind of like a movie and has a flashback to fighting prior to the invasion that starts the game. Also with the constant button clicking you really don't get to enjoy the action or the surroundings.I'm sure the non-stop action will appeal to some people.
Basically endless spawning of enemy units which quickly became boring and unrealistic. This makes for a click fest where you constantly jump around to control the movements of your troops. But I expected more. Heavy on battlefield tactics and light on strategy.
I love the game. It offers a lot of challenge and is realistic. I find that it lacks in being a very short game in the single player mode. Not much out there as far as downloads to continue the quest.
As far as the game goes, I really enjoy RTS. Enough said. Other wise, make sure your computer can cook for you, brush your teeth and drive you to work before purchasing this game. My half decent computer barely played the lowest settings.Good game, recommend it not for the story, but for the elements of a RTS
The game play is phenomenal. I bought this game in the Fall of 2007. The graphics are fantastic. I started with the single player campaign and thought it was pretty fun. But, the true glory of World In Conflict is in it's multi-player mode.I've played many other games but World In Conflict is without a doubt the most addictive game I have ever played. And the real beauty of this game is that you don't have to waste your time building bases to develop certain units. You can just jump right into the game and start going to battle. It's a shame that the publisher didn't do a better job of advertising this epic game.
There is a new version of this game called "Soviet Assault-complete edition" that includes this game (World In Conflict)plus the Soviet Assault expansion pack for about twenty bucks. As I'm writing this the price for the original World In Conflict game is over $100. Save yourself the money and get the same exact game plus the extras by purchasing Soviet Assault-Complete Edition.World in Conflict: Complete EditionThe low rating was for price only.
